33-year-old is currently second in the league and has not lost since leaving Leeds.
In the year he was with us, Joel Robles only made six appearances for Leeds United while handing out a staggering 14 goals. However, he recently relocated to Saudi Arabia and is now flourishing with lower-level Al-Qadsiah.
Robles, 33, joined Leeds in the summer of 2022 to serve as Illan Meslier’s veteran backup. Leeds believed that by adding the imposing Spaniard, who was a free agent after leaving Real Betis, they would improve their alternatives after Meslier.
Before replacing Meslier, he warmed the bench and participated in a few Cup games. Meslier was benched for the remaining four games of the season after Sam Allardyce was hired, and Robles took his place.
In those four league contests, 11 goals were allowed by Robles. Probably more the fault of the defense in front of him. Robles was invited back to Thorp Arch by Leeds for preseason, but no contract was made available. He departed free.
They’ve had a really good start. 7 games without a loss, 5 victories, and 2 draws. Robles and company are in second position with just three goals conceded. Al-Qadsiah and Robles appear to be in good hands with Fowler as their mentor.
It will be fascinating to watch what happens next because Robles has a contract with Al-Qadsiah that lasts until the end of the current season. However, you would suppose that if promotion is achieved, he might sign a new contract.
