“I didn’t expect that,” says Charles Leclerc, revealing huge Lewis Hamilton surprises.

Lewis Hamilton is Charles Leclerc’s fourth F1 teammate, and he has surprised him with his performance.

Charles Leclerc has shared the key surprises he learned about Lewis Hamilton’s attitude to Formula One, both inside and outside the cockpit. Hamilton joins Marcus Ericsson, Sebastian Vettel, and Carlos Sainz as Leclerc’s teammate after his 12-year run with Mercedes came to an end. In addition to driving, Hamilton is very interested in his Mission 44 campaign, which aims to enhance diversity and opportunity in motorsport, and he met with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street between the Spanish and Canadian Grands Prix. This is one area where Leclerc has expressed amazement at Hamilton, as well as an in-car trait that he has never seen from a previous teammate.

“We expected a lot from Lewis joining the team, and with so much success in F1, you kind of expect to see speed and special things in terms of driving,” Leclerc told RacingNews365. “All of this was expected, but I was nonetheless astonished by how he braked, for example. “It’s incredible how late he brakes.” Throughout my career, I’ve always been the one that brakes later than my teammates, which is a driving style I haven’t seen in any of my teammates, but Lewis is a step ahead in that regard.

“So that shocked me, but what astonished me the most, and it was one of the things I didn’t expect, was his discipline, which is quite great.

I remember seeing him manage so many different things and thinking, “This must be difficult,” but when you look at how organized everything is, you can tell he is just 200% focused on racing, and everything is super-well managed for these other ventures to operate successfully. “That is something I will take as an example for me, because we’ve all got passions, we’ve got projects outside of racing, but obviously for all of us, the most important is that we stay focused on racing, and Lewis is very, very impressive at that.”
