Verstappen agrees with Hamilton: ‘We have our platform’
While Formula One (F1) is on its summer break, the Olympic Games are taking place in Paris.
Notably, Dutch competitor Dinja van Liere used F1’s theme song during her individual dressage routine. However, Max Verstappen, a prominent figure in F1, expressed that he does not want motorsport to be included in the Olympics.
Verstappen shared his thoughts on this topic, aligning with fellow F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.
“No, it’s not for me. It’s too much just car related,” Verstappen began, explaining his stance against the inclusion of motorsport in the Olympic Games. “I don’t know, it’s probably also with racing.
You didn’t grow up in that kind of Olympic environment,” the three-time world champion added.
Verstappen elaborated on his viewpoint, stating that he does not feel motorsport fits within the Olympic framework.
“I don’t feel like it. I don’t think we belong at the Olympic stage. And that’s fine because we have our own championship, which I think is really well received,” he said. He emphasized his satisfaction with the existing F1 championship and how it is well-regarded globally.
Instead of participating, Verstappen prefers to enjoy the Olympics as a spectator, watching the events on TV.
While Charles Leclerc, another F1 driver, expressed a desire to represent Monaco at the Olympics, Verstappen found common ground with Lewis Hamilton on this issue.
Hamilton, driving for Mercedes, also responded with a straightforward “No” when asked if he wanted motorsport in the Olympics.
Overall, Verstappen and Hamilton both believe that motorsport should remain separate from the Olympic Games, maintaining their focus on their well-established and popular F1 championship.
