Kwon joins Hibs as Celtic midfielder completes season-long loan transfer

Kwon Hyeokkyu, a 23-year-old midfielder from Celtic, has joined Hibernian (Hibs) on a season-long loan. Despite being with Celtic, he has yet to make his competitive debut for the Scottish champions.

Last season, Kwon was loaned to St Mirren, where his dynamic performances quickly won over the fans, making him a popular figure with the Buddies. Now, with this new loan move to Hibs, Kwon will have the opportunity to secure regular first-team football at Easter Road.

Hibernian’s interim head coach, David Gray, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, highlighting Kwon’s versatility in midfield.

Gray noted that Kwon is capable of playing as both a deeper-lying defensive midfielder (a 6) and a more advanced central midfielder (an 8). He praised Kwon’s athleticism, competitiveness, and comfort on the ball, qualities that were evident during his successful loan spell at St Mirren last season. Gray mentioned that the club is excited to bring Kwon on board and is looking forward to working with him in the upcoming season.

Malky Mackay, the Sporting Director of Hibernian, also shared his satisfaction with the transfer.

He pointed out that Kwon is the club’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window, indicating an active and ambitious recruitment strategy. Mackay described Kwon as a top professional with a solid pedigree, adding that he brings a strong presence to the pitch. He also extended his gratitude to Brendan Rodgers, the Celtic manager , and the Celtic management team for their cooperation and efficiency in facilitating the loan move.

The swift and smooth handling of the transfer allowed Hibs to secure Kwon’s services quickly, which Mackay appreciated.

In summary, Kwon Hyeokkyu’s move to Hibernian represents an exciting opportunity for both the player and the club.

For Kwon, it’s a chance to gain regular playing time in the Scottish Premiership and further develop his skills in a competitive environment.

For Hibernian, the acquisition of a versatile and talented midfielder like Kwon strengthens their squad as they prepare for the challenges of the upcoming season.

The loan deal is a win-win situation, providing Kwon with the platform to showcase his abilities while giving Hibs a valuable asset in their midfield lineup.
