In a tight Leeds United match against Middlesbrough, Joe Gelhardt shows his mettle.
Joe Gelhardt of Leeds United is currently the most likely player to have impressed Daniel Farke in his quest for minutes against Middlesbrough.
In a muscular and tense battle with Boro, the forward has gained a lot of ground by halftime at Elland Road in an attempt to convince Farke to give him a start in the Championship.
Although Gelhardt was never a first-choice player at Elland Road, he did have some significant moments while wearing a white shirt. In 2023, he moved to Sunderland on loan in January, where he ended up making the joint-highest amount of appearances for a single club in a season.
Gelhardt has demonstrated his versatility as an attacker both at Elland Road and while on loan at Sunderland. Throughout his career, he has been asked to play as a central striker, a second striker, and a winger.
He has been a consistent hard worker and a passable link player for Boro, with considerably more touches in the first half than Joel Piroe and Patrick Bamford. He has also drawn fouls in confined spaces.
The one momentary mistake came from a shoddy clearing on the edge of his own territory that went right to Aidan Morris. Despite this, the visitors were unable to take use of the opportunity, and play was eventually stopped when Sam Byram brought down Isaiah Jones.
Under Farke, who clearly would prefer to give the striker more opportunities and does rate him, Gelhardt is up against some of the most brilliant players in the division’s history, including Wilfried Gnonto, Georginio Rutter, and more so in the previous Bamford.
