shows Rangers HAVE applied to Glasgow City Council for permission to install Celtic fan safety nets
Rangers Football Club has submitted an application to Glasgow City Council for planning permission to install safety nets at Ibrox Stadium for high-risk fixtures, including Old Firm matches against Celtic.
The move is expected to resolve a major issue in the dispute between the two Glasgow giants over the return of away fans.
The application, made on August 19, seeks permission for the installation of demountable safety netting systems between the home and away supporter stands.
This development should pave the way for the return of Celtic fans to Ibrox, with around 2,500 supporters expected to be accommodated behind the nets.
The first two Old Firm matches of the season will still be played without away fans, but the successful arrival of steel shipments has allowed Rangers to proceed with the necessary stadium changes.
The agreement between the two clubs, brokered by the SPFL, aims to have European allocations of around 5% of capacity in place for the final two Old Firm matches.
The application’s status is currently “Pending Consideration.”
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers had previously expressed support for his club’s position on the matter, emphasizing that Rangers were responsible for the delay in completing the required work.
The installation of safety nets is a crucial step towards resolving the dispute and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all fans attending high-risk fixtures at Ibrox Stadium.
