Lewis Hamilton Wants to Make Music, But First, He Wants to Make the World a Better Place

Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 World Champion and one of the most recognizable figures in the world of motorsport, has always pushed boundaries both on and off the track. Now, at the age of 39, Hamilton is looking toward new horizons, including a foray into the world of music. But, before he immerses himself in his creative passions, he has set his sights on an even bigger goal — making the world a better place.

A Life Beyond Racing

Hamilton has never shied away from expressing his interests outside of Formula 1. Over the years, he has been an advocate for diversity and environmentalism and has used his platform to speak on issues such as racial injustice, sustainability, and animal rights. In interviews, he has been candid about his growing desire to contribute more meaningfully to these causes, all while maintaining his competitive edge in motorsport.

Despite nearing 40, Hamilton has not shown any signs of slowing down. However, he has made it clear that the next phase of his life will likely involve a broader spectrum of activities. “I know I can’t race forever,” Hamilton admitted in a recent interview. “I’ve always been passionate about making a difference, and that’s something I’m focusing on more and more.”

Passion for Music

One of Hamilton’s personal passions is music. The British driver has long been known for his love of music and has even hinted at recording his own songs. In fact, in 2018, he was revealed to have written and recorded tracks under the pseudonym “XNDA.” While his identity remained secret for some time, it was eventually disclosed that Hamilton had collaborated with Grammy-winning artist Christina Aguilera on her album Liberation

Though music remains an exciting outlet for him, Hamilton is deliberate about the timing. “Music is something that helps me express my feelings and creativity, but I want to do it at the right time,” he explained. “For me, it’s more than just releasing songs — it’s about the message and the impact it could have.”

Using His Platform for Change

For Hamilton, using his global platform to inspire social change remains his top priority. He has been a vocal advocate for diversity within Formula 1, a sport historically dominated by white drivers and limited minority representation. In 2020, amidst the global protests following the death of George Floyd, Hamilton wore a “Black Lives Matter” T-shirt and took a knee on the grid, sending a powerful message across the sporting world.

Beyond that, Hamilton founded the “Hamilton Commission” to address the underrepresentation of Black people in motorsport. The commission’s report, published in 2021, called for educational and systemic reforms to create more opportunities for young people of color to enter the sport. “My goal is to leave a legacy that extends far beyond racing,” Hamilton said.

Environmental Advocacy

In addition to championing social causes, Hamilton is also a passionate environmental advocate. He has transitioned to a plant-based diet and sold his private jet in an effort to reduce his carbon footprint. Hamilton has also pushed for Formula 1 to become more sustainable, supporting the sport’s goals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.

“I love racing, but we have a responsibility to look after our planet,” Hamilton said. “If we don’t take action now, the future of everything we love, including motorsport, is at risk.”

A Global Icon, a Lasting Legacy

As Hamilton continues to race at the highest level, he remains focused on his future beyond the track. Whether through music or his activism, the British driver is determined to leave a lasting impact. “I want to be remembered for more than just my victories,” Hamilton said. “I want to be remembered for helping to make the world a better place.”

As he approaches the twilight of his racing career, one thing is clear: Lewis Hamilton’s legacy will transcend Formula 1.
