Mercedes Unveils Special Livery for Singapore Grand Prix to Celebrate 50 Years of Partnership with PETRONAS

Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, Mercedes has revealed a striking one-off livery for the W15, which will feature shades of emerald green instead of the team’s usual silver color scheme. The change has been made to honor the 50th anniversary of their long-standing technical and title partner, PETRONAS.

The revamped design highlights PETRONAS’ signature emerald green, which will replace much of the silver on the car’s front wing and sidepods. This special edition livery pays tribute to the Malaysian oil giant, whose headquarters are located in Kuala Lumpur, not far from Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit, where the race will take place.

Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, spoke highly of the collaboration between the two companies, which has been a cornerstone of Mercedes’ success in recent years. “Our partnership with PETRONAS is our longest-standing and remains as strong as ever. For any company to reach its 50th anniversary is an incredible achievement,” said Wolff. “This livery is not only a celebration of their 50th anniversary but also a reflection of PETRONAS’ importance to our team’s journey. It honors the milestones we’ve reached together, and we’re excited to showcase this during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend.”

This special livery will be used throughout the weekend under the lights of the Marina Bay Street Circuit, adding a vibrant twist to one of the most visually stunning races on the Formula 1 calendar. The green accents, which are reminiscent of PETRONAS’ branding, bring a fresh new look to the Mercedes car, and the design has already received positive feedback from drivers and fans alike.

Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was enthusiastic about the design, expressing his excitement to drive the W15 with its new look. “The livery looks incredible,” Hamilton remarked. “I can’t wait to see it on the car in the garage and then get behind the wheel on Friday. It’s a privilege to celebrate this milestone, and our journey together, at such an important race like Singapore.”

Hamilton, who has been part of the Mercedes team for over a decade, has shared numerous victories with PETRONAS as a sponsor. He noted that this celebration is particularly special due to the role the company has played in the team’s ongoing success.

George Russell, Hamilton’s teammate and rising star in Formula 1, echoed these sentiments. “The design looks brilliant and is a fantastic tribute to such a milestone achievement. It’s great to recognize the importance of our relationship with PETRONAS at a race so close to their home base,” Russell commented.

For both drivers, the Singapore Grand Prix holds a unique place on the F1 calendar. Known for its challenging street circuit and intense conditions, the race provides an ideal backdrop for this symbolic celebration. Both Hamilton and Russell will be hoping the special livery will bring them good fortune on the track, as they aim to challenge for the podium.

Once the Singapore race concludes, the celebrations will continue, with Wolff, Hamilton, and Russell traveling to PETRONAS’ home city of Kuala Lumpur. They are expected to participate in further events commemorating the company’s 50th anniversary and Mercedes’ fruitful partnership with the oil giant.

This milestone celebration marks yet another chapter in the successful collaboration between Mercedes and PETRONAS, a partnership that has been integral to the team’s dominance in Formula 1 over the past decade. The special livery serves not only as a symbol of appreciation for PETRONAS’ support but also as a visual reminder of the lasting bond between the two organizations as they continue to push for more success in the future.
