FIA announce McLaren car and….INSPECTION ahead of US Grand Prix due to…read more

The FIA has disclosed that one of McLaren’s cars underwent a thorough inspection ahead of the upcoming United States Grand Prix. The 2024 Formula 1 season is resuming after a month-long break, with many key battles still to unfold across the grid.

At the forefront of the drivers’ championship is a heated contest between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen. The two drivers have been battling for dominance, with Norris making the most of Verstappen’s recent dip in form to close the gap between them to just 52 points. With six races remaining in the season, Norris has emerged as the driver in top form, aiming to keep the momentum going as the championship fight heads into its decisive stages.

McLaren is also chasing glory on a broader front, with the team on the verge of securing its first constructors’ championship since 1998. Having overtaken Red Bull, the reigning champions, McLaren is now in prime position to claim the title. Norris has been a key part of McLaren’s resurgence, consistently delivering strong performances that have kept the team in contention for both titles.

While much of the attention has been on Norris, his teammate Oscar Piastri has also had a standout year. In only his second season in Formula 1, the Australian has demonstrated exceptional skill and maturity, claiming victories in Hungary and Azerbaijan. Piastri has also achieved five podium finishes throughout the season, significantly contributing to McLaren’s points tally. His most recent podium came at the Singapore Grand Prix, where he finished third behind Verstappen and Norris.

Despite the near month-long gap since the Singapore race, a recent document from the FIA has brought attention to a post-race inspection carried out on Piastri’s car. After the Singapore Grand Prix, the FIA conducted a physical examination of Piastri’s McLaren, focusing on components related to the gearbox. This inspection was part of routine procedures aimed at ensuring compliance with Formula 1’s stringent technical regulations. The FIA’s report confirmed that after a detailed review, the McLaren was found to be fully compliant with all regulations, and no breaches were discovered.

The timing of this inspection, revealed just ahead of the United States Grand Prix, raised some interest. However, it is not uncommon for cars to be subject to random inspections as part of Formula 1’s regulatory process, especially in the final stretch of the season when the stakes are high. With McLaren fighting for both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships, the team will be keen to avoid any technical issues that could jeopardize their chances of securing their first title in decades.

As the 2024 season resumes in the United States, the spotlight remains firmly on McLaren and their two talented drivers. Norris is looking to sustain his charge towards the drivers’ title, while Piastri will aim to continue adding valuable points to the team’s championship effort. Both drivers are playing crucial roles in what has been a remarkable season for McLaren, and with six races remaining, the team is on the brink of achieving something special.

Ultimately, the FIA’s inspection of Piastri’s car was a routine check, and the confirmation that everything was in order provides McLaren with one less concern as they focus on the critical races ahead.
