Red Bull team DEMOTED after FIA confirmation

The Red Bull team faced an unexpected setback following the Brazilian Grand Prix as the FIA confirmed a demotion for its junior team, Visa Cash App RB, in the 2024 standings. This came after an intense race where Red Bull’s main driver, Max Verstappen, finally clinched a victory, breaking an 11-race dry spell. Verstappen’s win at the São Paulo circuit not only boosted his morale but widened the points gap over McLaren’s Lando Norris, who remains his closest challenger for the title. However, while the main Red Bull team celebrated a return to form, the same success did not extend to their junior team.

Visa Cash App RB, which includes drivers Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, had been performing well enough to start the Brazilian GP in strong positions—Lawson in P5 and Tsunoda in P3. This provided a prime opportunity for both drivers to showcase their potential as candidates for the main Red Bull lineup, with speculation growing about who might replace Sergio Perez in the coming seasons. Despite this promising start, the race turned unfavorable after mid-race incidents, including a VSC deployment. Lawson and Tsunoda finished in P7 and P9, short of the performance needed to maintain their team’s position in the standings.

In a surprising twist, Alpine pulled off a double podium finish, elevating their position in the constructors’ standings and causing Visa Cash App RB to fall to P8 with only 44 points. This demotion underlined the impact of the junior team’s inconsistent results throughout the season, leaving them vulnerable to challenges from lower-ranked teams.

This performance divide within Red Bull’s ranks illustrates the team’s mixed season, despite Verstappen’s return to the top of the podium. His win at Interlagos was a crucial moment, symbolizing Red Bull’s potential to regain its dominant form, but it also highlighted challenges in its development pipeline, especially as Red Bull seeks to secure a stronger standing in the coming races.
