F1 2025 Driver Lineup: Major Shifts Across the Grid….. see more
The 2025 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be one of the most dynamic in recent memory, with several key driver changes and high-profile moves confirming that a reshuffle is underway across the grid. The latest announcement comes from Sauber, who have confirmed the signing of Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto, who will partner with Nico Hulkenberg for the 2025 season. This marks a new chapter for the team, which is set to transition into Audi for 2026.
Elsewhere, Mercedes had already settled their driver situation earlier in the year by confirming that young talent Antonelli would join the team alongside George Russell for 2025. The move also brought an end to months of speculation about the future of Lewis Hamilton, who will leave Mercedes and make the switch to Ferrari, a move that signals Ferrari’s serious intent to fight for the World Championship in the coming seasons.
At the same time, Carlos Sainz, who had been expected to stay with Ferrari, has decided to make a switch to Williams Racing for 2025. He will replace Logan Sargeant, who is set to leave the team, and team up with Alexander Albon in what will be a completely new lineup for the British squad.
Over at Alpine, there is a significant change as well. Jack Doohan, who has been serving as a reserve driver for the French team, will step up to a full-time race seat in place of Esteban Ocon, who will depart Alpine at the end of the season. Doohan will partner Pierre Gasly, who recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at Alpine for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, Haas has confirmed some major changes of its own. The team’s driver lineup will look different in 2025, as Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen both exit the team. Magnussen’s departure makes way for Ocon, while Hulkenberg will move to the newly rebranded Stake F1 team. Joining Ocon at Haas will be F2 star Oliver Bearman, who has been handed a multi-year deal for his full-time F1 debut next season.
Stake F1, the team formerly known as Sauber, has made waves with its driver lineup. While Hulkenberg’s move had been widely speculated, the team surprised many by confirming that they would part ways with both Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu. The new pairing will feature Hulkenberg alongside 20-year-old Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, who is expected to bring fresh talent to the team ahead of Audi’s official entry into F1 in 2026.
At Red Bull, things remain largely unchanged, with Max Verstappen continuing to dominate as the team’s lead driver. Verstappen, who extended his contract with the team until 2028, remains the cornerstone of Red Bull’s future. His teammate, Sergio Perez, has also secured his place at the team for the next few years, with a contract extension keeping him at Red Bull until at least 2026.
McLaren’s lineup for 2025 is another example of stability, as both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri have signed multi-year extensions that will see them stay with the team until the end of 2026. The duo’s impressive performances in recent seasons have cemented McLaren’s position as one of the top teams in F1, and the team will be looking for continued success with both drivers locked in for the long term.
Aston Martin’s driver lineup will also remain steady, with Lance Stroll securing a new deal that will keep him at the team for the foreseeable future. Fernando Alonso, who has continued to show impressive form despite his age, has extended his contract with Aston Martin until the end of 2026, putting to rest any rumors of a move to rival teams.
The driver market drama for 2025 continues with other teams also making significant announcements. At Visa Cash App RB (formerly AlphaTauri), Yuki Tsunoda will retain his seat for the 2025 season. However, Daniel Ricciardo’s time with the team is coming to an end as Liam Lawson is expected to take over the second seat. While Ricciardo has not officially confirmed his F1 future beyond 2024, Lawson’s promotion has been widely anticipated.
Finally, Williams Racing has locked in Carlos Sainz for 2025, as the Spanish driver replaces Logan Sargeant. He will partner with Albon, who recently signed a long-term extension, and together they will aim to bring the team back to the competitive upper echelons of Formula 1.
With so many high-profile moves and changes across the grid, the 2025 F1 season is shaping up to be an exciting and unpredictable one, with a mixture of experience and young talent setting the stage for a new era in the sport.
