But what are the chances that the forward converts his short-term loan agreement to a long-term one at the Amex?
Because of his salary demands, The Athletic claims that’s ‘out of the question’.
According to the report, a permanent deal would “blow apart” the club’s salary structure, with Brighton currently paying him £128,000 a week, which is “way above” what his current teammates earn. While another loan spell with the Seagulls in 2024–2025 is possible, it may be a long shot.

Fati seems to have an uncertain future, even if he stars at Albion. Barcelona’s well-known financial difficulties may force them to consider selling the Spanish international, whose deal with the La Liga team expires in 2027.
Because the attacker, who was born in Guinea-Bissau, came through Barcelona’s academy and there is no amortisation to account for—a process that writes off a player’s initial cost over the course of their contract—if he were to leave, Barcelona would stand to gain significantly.
On the other hand, Joao Felix, the Portuguese international who replaced Fati in Barcelona’s starting lineup, is on loan from Atletico Madrid; however, there is no option to purchase the player. It might not be possible to land him unless they sell another player for a high price.
Furthermore, Fati—who receives Brighton’s payment for 80% of his £160,000 weekly salary—has been linked to a move to Saudi Arabia, where money is not a concern.
Therefore, if Fati does well this season, Barcelona might decide to keep him or sell him to the highest bidder; alternatively, they might consider giving him another loan to reduce his salary.
