Everton striker pushing for Everton return after Beto fails to take big chance.

In Thursday’s match at Goodison Park against Newcastle United, Dominic Calvert-Lewin may start at center field for Everton again after Beto blew a huge opportunity to make an impression in the 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

Calvert-Lewin missed Saturday night’s trip to the City Ground due to a minor calf problem, after starting nine consecutive games. The center striker was “touch and go,” though, according to manager Sean Dyche, who also stated that “as long as he has come through this weekend he has got a good chance for later in the week.”

The Portuguese player wasted a great chance to score his first Premier League goal in the first half when he fired over the bar after home keeper Odysseas Vlachodimos spilled the ball under pressure from Dwight McNeil, despite Calvert-Lewin’s backup Beto working hard in the number nine’s absence.

Calvert-Lewin has scored five goals against the Magpies in the past, making him one of only four Everton players with 50 Premier League goals. For the first of a Goodison double header in four days, Dyche may be inclined to bring him back.
