In an all-access book discussing the team, he expressed that Hamilton’s choice prevents the difficult conversation where he would have to inform the driver that it might be time to retire. He pointed out that the one-plus-one-year contract they signed reflected the nature of the sport, which requires cognitive sharpness from its competitors. Wolff emphasized that every driver has a limited “shelf life” in the sport.
