Carlos Sainz makes sad admission after Lewis Hamilton replaces him at Ferrari

Carlos Sainz has openly expressed his disappointment and feelings of being “hurt” after being overlooked by some of Formula 1’s top teams for the upcoming season. In February, it was confirmed that Ferrari would part ways with the Spanish driver, opting to replace him with Lewis Hamilton. This decision quickly sparked speculation that Sainz would be heading to another major team for the following year, with rumors linking him to several high-profile moves.

Initially, there were strong suggestions that Sainz could join Red Bull to take over from Sergio Perez, whose position appeared uncertain. However, despite this speculation, Perez was offered a contract extension with Red Bull, which dashed hopes of a potential switch for Sainz. The Spanish driver was also linked with a possible move to Mercedes, with some pundits suggesting he could replace Hamilton. But instead of pursuing Sainz, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff decided to promote the team’s development driver, Kimi Antonelli, to a more prominent role.

At one point, Sainz was even rumored to be in talks with Audi, potentially playing a key role in their entry into Formula 1 in 2026. However, these discussions never came to fruition, and by mid-2024, it seemed that Sainz might be at risk of not securing a seat for the following season. His future in F1 appeared uncertain as the summer approached, but in July, it was finally confirmed that Sainz had signed a multi-year deal with Williams. There, he will team up with Alex Albon, marking a fresh chapter in his career.

Reflecting on the experience, Sainz admitted that the lack of significant interest from other teams was bewildering. Despite his success and reputation as one of the sport’s top drivers, he found himself in a position where top teams did not vie for his services. This situation, however, has not left him disillusioned. Instead, Sainz views it as a source of motivation to prove himself further, particularly as he prepares to work under James Vowles at Williams. He expressed a strong sense of commitment to the team that believed in him when others did not.

Sainz’s move to Williams marks a shift in his career, and he seems determined to reward the team’s faith in him. He reflected on the fact that Williams was the team that approached him a year before his move was confirmed, showing they had confidence in his abilities even when other teams did not. “At the same time, it creates even more of a challenge in me. It makes me more excited for Williams,” he said. “Williams is the one that has invested in me, the ones that have backed me from the beginning.” This sense of loyalty and determination to repay the trust placed in him by Williams is driving Sainz forward. He sees his new role as an opportunity to give back to the team and build something meaningful together.

Currently, Sainz is ranked fifth in the drivers’ standings, and his performances have been integral in helping Ferrari maintain a strong challenge for the Constructors’ Championship. Despite his high level of performance and his continued position as one of the top drivers on the grid, Sainz insisted that he holds no bitterness toward the teams that passed on him for next season. Rather than dwelling on missed opportunities, Sainz remains focused on the future and eager to make the most of his time at Williams.

In summary, Carlos Sainz’s journey through the 2024 season has been one of unexpected turns and challenges. While he was initially snubbed by some of F1’s elite teams, he is now looking forward to proving himself at Williams, where he feels both appreciated and motivated. His story underscores the unpredictable nature of Formula 1 and the resilience required to thrive in such a competitive environment. Rather than letting the lack of interest from top teams deter him, Sainz is using it as fuel to achieve even greater success in the next phase of his career.
