FIA steward backs Ricciardo for SHOCK new F1 role
An FIA steward has suggested that former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo could be a strong candidate for a surprising new role in the sport—punditry.
Ricciardo, who was dropped by AlphaTauri in September following the Singapore Grand Prix, had been struggling to regain the form that once made him a rising star at Red Bull.
He ended his F1 stint by setting the fastest lap of the day in Singapore, but it wasn’t enough to secure his future with the team.
Although Ricciardo’s departure from F1 wasn’t a huge shock, it marked the end of his return to the sport with AlphaTauri, where he had been brought back mid-season to replace the injured Nyck de Vries.
Since then, he has taken a break from racing, with his chances of returning to F1 seeming slim. Instead, he has been linked with opportunities in various motorsport series globally.
However, Johnny Herbert, a former F1 driver and current FIA steward, believes Ricciardo would thrive in a punditry role.
Herbert, speaking to Flashscore USA, praised Ricciardo’s personable and approachable nature, suggesting he would be a great fit for F1 broadcasting.
He highlighted Ricciardo’s vast experience, including both the highs and lows of his career, as valuable for giving insightful commentary. Furthermore, Herbert noted Ricciardo’s popularity among fans, emphasizing his natural charisma and ability to communicate his experiences in an engaging way.
According to Herbert, Ricciardo’s friendly demeanor and insight into the world of F1 would make him a valuable addition to a broadcasting team, specifically recommending him for a role with Sky Sports F1.
Although Ricciardo has not publicly confirmed his next steps, his name continues to be linked to potential roles within the sport, with punditry emerging as a strong possibility for the Australian, especially given his unique perspective and likable personality.
