FIA announce F1 champion penalty verdict after Las Vegas Grand Prix incident
The FIA has delivered its penalty verdict for an incident involving a former F1 champion at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The weekend’s action featured intense competition among top teams like McLaren, Mercedes, Ferrari, and Max Verstappen for pole position.
Mercedes emerged as the dominant force in early sessions, with Lewis Hamilton and George Russell showcasing impressive pace throughout Thursday and Friday.
Ultimately, it was the younger Mercedes driver, Russell, who claimed pole position with a stellar lap, securing a start ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz.
While the front of the grid saw thrilling battles, qualifying turned into a disaster for Sergio Perez and the Aston Martin drivers. Lance Stroll faced a significant setback in FP3 when an engine issue caused a red flag.
Despite the team’s rapid efforts to repair his car, Stroll struggled in qualifying, setting the slowest time of the session and failing to progress beyond Q1.
Fernando Alonso also encountered challenges after FP3. The Aston Martin driver was summoned by the stewards for a pit lane infringement.
According to the FIA, Alonso exceeded the pit lane speed limit by 1.3 km/h, violating Article 34.7 of the sporting regulations.
The incident led to a minor penalty for the team, which was fined €200 for the breach.
As the grid lines up for the main event, Mercedes appears poised to capitalize on their strong form, while other teams, including Aston Martin and Red Bull, face an uphill battle after disappointing qualifying sessions.
Despite these setbacks, fans can look forward to an exciting race in Las Vegas, where strategic brilliance and skill could shift the momentum.
