Verstappen TAUNTS F1 rival with powerful championship claim
Max Verstappen has fired shots at a rival following his clinch of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship during the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
The Dutch driver secured his fourth consecutive title by finishing ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris, solidifying his status as the sport’s dominant force.
Despite Red Bull’s struggles in Nevada, where Verstappen finished fifth, it was enough to seal the championship with Norris finishing in sixth.
The result marked the culmination of another stellar season for Verstappen.
Following the race, he celebrated the achievement and didn’t hold back from addressing recent comments made by McLaren’s CEO, Zak Brown.
Brown had previously stated on the Beyond the Grid podcast that while Verstappen deserved recognition as one of the greatest drivers in the sport, he wouldn’t be able to win the title in any car other than a Red Bull.
Verstappen used his title triumph to respond to those remarks.
When Brown congratulated him after the race, Verstappen made a pointed comment directly to his face.
Later, while speaking to Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf, Verstappen elaborated on his confidence, asserting that he could have won the championship in the McLaren car much earlier in the season.
“Would I have become champion in the McLaren? Yes, and much earlier too,” Verstappen claimed.
He also reflected on how unexpected moments, such as the rain in Brazil, helped him wrap up the championship sooner than expected.
Verstappen admitted feeling relieved to have secured the title with two races remaining in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
He expressed a desire to finish the season on a high note but acknowledged that the pressure was now off.
To celebrate his milestone, Verstappen revealed he was enjoying drinks, saying: “I’ve had four beers and two gin and tonics now.”
He added that while the race in Las Vegas wasn’t his best, it turned out better than anticipated, and he was grateful for how the season unfolded.
With this championship, Verstappen continues to cement his legacy in Formula 1, demonstrating not only his on-track skill but also his ability to play mind games with his rivals off the track.
