Lando Norris Responds to Max Verstappen’s C…read more

Lando Norris has strongly rejected Max Verstappen’s recent suggestion that he would have been able to win the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship had he been driving for McLaren instead of his current team, Red Bull Racing. Verstappen, who has dominated the F1 scene in recent seasons, made the comment in a recent interview while reflecting on McLaren’s impressive resurgence this year.

Verstappen, whose record-breaking performances with Red Bull have made him a favorite for the title, pointed out that McLaren’s significant improvements throughout the 2024 season had made their car highly competitive. He implied that a driver of his caliber could have easily secured the championship had he been in a McLaren, given the team’s newfound performance boost.

However, Norris, who has consistently been one of McLaren’s top performers in 2024, was quick to respond to Verstappen’s claim. The British driver made it clear that he did not agree with the assertion, suggesting that winning a championship involves more than just having a fast car. While acknowledging McLaren’s impressive strides forward this season, Norris emphasized the importance of consistency, strategy, and team dynamics in securing a title.

Norris pointed out that while McLaren’s car had become competitive, especially in the second half of the season, the pressure of competing at the front consistently would have presented unique challenges. He stressed that achieving the same level of dominance that Verstappen enjoys with Red Bull requires a complete synergy between driver and team, as well as flawless execution over the course of a full season.

“The car has been quick, and we’ve made great progress, but it’s not just about having the fastest car,” Norris explained. “There’s a lot more to winning a championship, and it’s about maintaining that consistency race after race. Max has been incredibly dominant for a reason—he and his team have everything working perfectly together. We still have some work to do, but we’re getting there.”

Verstappen’s comments have sparked debates among fans and analysts, with some defending the Red Bull star’s bold statement, while others side with Norris, acknowledging that success in F1 is not just about raw speed but also the complete package that a team can offer. Regardless of the debate, Norris remains focused on his own journey with McLaren, committed to pushing for podium finishes and, ultimately, championship contention in the years ahead.

For Norris, 2024 has been a breakthrough season, with McLaren closing the gap to the front runners and achieving a number of strong results. As the season progresses, he continues to challenge for podiums, and while the world championship may be out of reach this year, Norris remains optimistic about his future prospects with McLaren. His ambition is clear: to build on this momentum and one day compete for the title himself.
