Ricciardo Bombshell Amid Perez Replacement Speculation at Abu Dhabi GPF

Formula 1 pundit Martin Brundle has made a startling revelation regarding Daniel Ricciardo and the ongoing speculation surrounding Sergio Perez’s future at Red Bull.

This comes as both drivers face mounting pressure due to underwhelming performances during the 2024 season.

Perez has endured a challenging season, marked by nine Q1 eliminations and several low-scoring finishes, which have significantly impacted Red Bull’s standing in the Constructors’ Championship.

The team is set to finish third this season, a major disappointment considering their past dominance.

Rumors about Perez’s potential replacement for 2025 have been circulating, although Red Bull has yet to make an official announcement.

Despite this, Perez, whose contract extends until 2026, remains confident he will retain his seat next year.

One name frequently mentioned as a potential replacement is young Kiwi driver Liam Lawson.

Lawson, who previously replaced Ricciardo during his stint at AlphaTauri, is seen as a promising option if Red Bull decides to move on from Perez.

Ricciardo, meanwhile, has also faced criticism for his lackluster 2024 performance.

Speculation about his departure from the Red Bull program began as early as the Spanish Grand Prix, further fueling uncertainty about his future in F1.

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Brundle drew parallels between Perez and Ricciardo’s struggles, emphasizing the toll of prolonged underperformance.

“I feel the same way about Sergio as I did about Daniel Ricciardo,” Brundle remarked.

He expressed respect for both drivers’ achievements and praised their standout moments, including impressive overtakes and victories in challenging conditions.

However, he also acknowledged the immense pressure and frustration both must endure, suggesting it has drained their confidence and joy for racing.

With speculation continuing to swirl, the Abu Dhabi GP has become a focal point for discussions about the future of both Ricciardo and Perez in Formula 1.
