Hamilton REMOVES Mercedes farewell tribute from car at Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion, requested the removal of a farewell tribute sticker from his Mercedes car ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
This race marks the end of Hamilton’s dominant tenure with Mercedes, during which he secured six world titles and established himself as one of the sport’s greatest drivers.
The team had organized several tributes to honor Hamilton’s legacy, including a special session at Silverstone where he drove his championship-winning cars from 2013, 2014, and 2018.
These vehicles played pivotal roles in his illustrious career and were part of a nostalgic send-off.
As another gesture, Mercedes added an inspirational sticker inside his cockpit that read, “Every team needs a dream.”
Positioned just beyond the steering wheel lights, the sticker was meant to celebrate Hamilton’s contributions.
However, he found it distracting and asked for its removal before the race weekend began.
Sky Sports’ Ted Kravitz explained that the sticker was placed on the bulkhead, directly in the driver’s line of sight, which may have interfered with Hamilton’s focus.
While Hamilton opted to remove it, the same sticker remained on his teammate George Russell’s car.
Kravitz humorously remarked that Russell didn’t seem to mind the sticker, even suggesting it could be changed to a joke referencing Russell’s rivalry with Max Verstappen: “Every action that happens needs somebody to get angry about it if it’s Max Verstappen.”
This decision reflects Hamilton’s meticulous approach to racing, emphasizing the importance of minimal distractions.
Despite the sticker’s removal, Mercedes’ tributes to Hamilton continue to underscore his monumental achievements with the team.
