Top Phillies prospect in baseball is expected to make his much anticipated debut in 2024.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto was allegedly a target for the Philadelphia Phillies. Unfortunately, Yamamoto signed a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers instead of the Phillies.
Dave Dombrowski will take the necessary actions to improve the team if he feels that it is necessary. It is unclear, though, if Philadelphia will still be considered for a second.
They might have been open to adding a No. 2-3 to the rotation, but they might not have been interested in a star like Yamamoto.
The Phillies may decide to promote some of their own prospects. Among the organization’s prospects, Todd Zoleck of MLB.com thinks Mick Abel has a chance to make it to the major leagues in 2024. “MLB Pipeline ranks Abel as the No. 2 prospect in the organization and the No. 45 prospect in baseball. If Abel improves the following season, he ought to pursue a promotion if it becomes necessary, writes Zolecki.
Abel went 5-6 with a 4.13 ERA in 23 starts with Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley, striking out 132 and walking 65 in 113 1/3 innings. His command was an issue throughout the season, but he went 2-1 with a 1.63 ERA in his final five starts.” While Abel didn’t have the season that some were hoping for, the stuff is certainly there. The right-hander out of Oregon was drafted with the 15th pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. Abel has thrown in 60 career MILB games and has posted a 4.09 ERA and 1.28 WHIP.
