Lewis Hamilton has confirmed that he will be making a switch from Mercedes to Ferrari in 2025 after spending 11 years with the Silver Arrows. He compared this transition to his earlier move to Mercedes back in 2013, emphasizing that entering a new team is always a tough process. “I remember when I joined Mercedes, and it’s not an easy step to ever enter into a new team. It takes time to build new relationships and learn the tools and everything,” said Hamilton. Despite the anticipated difficulties, he reassured fans that he would approach this transition with the same dedication and focus that he displayed when he first joined Mercedes. He is motivated by the challenge, viewing it as an exciting opportunity to prove himself in a new environment.
Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, who has worked with Hamilton during his junior years, is optimistic about the British driver’s potential to elevate the team. Vasseur highlighted Hamilton’s wealth of experience, having spent 18 years in F1, and his distinctive driving style. He believes that Hamilton’s mindset of relentlessly chasing small margins to gain a competitive edge will be a valuable asset to Ferrari. “We really need to have this kind of mindset to chase the last one-thousandth in every single area, and I think Lewis will be a good asset for this also,” Vasseur noted, recognizing Hamilton’s ability to turn small improvements into winning opportunities.
Meanwhile, Mercedes is preparing for Hamilton’s departure by bringing in 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, a promising driver from the team’s junior program. Antonelli is already regarded as a future superstar in F1, with a strong track record in various junior categories. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff explained that the decision to promote Antonelli into F1 at such a young age was based on his remarkable past performances and immense potential. Wolff believes that the young driver is ready to step into the role and carry forward the legacy of the seven-time world champion.
