Ex-Ferrari boss reveals MAJOR Hamilton risk ahead of 2025 move

A former Ferrari boss has outlined why the potential signing of Lewis Hamilton for 2025 carries considerable risk for both the driver and the team. Hamilton, who has spent 12 years at Mercedes and won six of his seven Formula 1 World Championships there, is set to make a high-profile move to Ferrari in 2025. Despite being 39 years old, Hamilton remains as competitive as ever, as evidenced by his two surprise victories at Silverstone and Spa in 2024. Additionally, he delivered one of the standout performances of the season in Abu Dhabi, charging from 16th to finish in 4th, offering a glimpse of the talent Ferrari can expect next season.

Ferrari has also seen improvements in recent years, coming very close to securing the 2024 Constructors’ Championship. They finished just 14 points behind McLaren, a performance that has fueled optimism that they might be on the verge of ending their lengthy drought for a title, their last coming in 2008.

Luca di Montezemolo, former president of Ferrari, has praised the team’s progress but also expressed caution regarding Hamilton’s move. He acknowledged that while Ferrari has a strong chance of clinching a title, the arrival of a driver of Hamilton’s stature could present significant challenges. Di Montezemolo suggested that the integration of such a high-profile figure into the team could create potential tensions or complications.

Hamilton is known for his strong personality and his history with Mercedes, where he’s enjoyed years of dominance. His transition to Ferrari might bring different dynamics into the team, which could prove tricky as Ferrari is already on an upward trajectory. The synergy between Hamilton and the existing team members will be critical in determining how smoothly this transition goes. There is also the risk that Hamilton, at 39, might face challenges in adjusting to a new team environment, despite his continued excellence on the track.

Moreover, while Hamilton’s skills are undeniable, there is the possibility that the expectations and pressure at Ferrari could be a double-edged sword. The Scuderia has a rich history of success, but the intense pressure to win could place additional strain on a driver, especially someone with the level of expectation that Hamilton would bring.

However, despite these concerns, the 2024 season has shown that Ferrari is close to competing at the top level. With Hamilton’s arrival, the team could harness his expertise to further enhance their performance and possibly secure the championship they have been craving for over 15 years. The partnership between one of the sport’s greatest drivers and a team on the rise could be a combination that finally leads Ferrari back to the top.

In conclusion, while Hamilton’s move to Ferrari holds the promise of great success, it also comes with significant risks that both the driver and team must navigate. The coming seasons will reveal whether the move proves to be a masterstroke or a miscalculation.
