Ferrari criticised over Sainz exit: “Getting rid of him is suicidal’

Carlos Sainz’s departure from Ferrari after the 2024 Formula 1 season remains a divisive topic.

While some back Ferrari’s decision, citing Lewis Hamilton’s seven world championships and Sainz’s difficulty in matching teammate Charles Leclerc’s form, others believe Sainz epitomized the ideal Ferrari driver.

One vocal supporter of Sainz is former team owner Eddie Jordan, who has criticized Ferrari’s move.

The shocking transfer of Hamilton to Ferrari, announced in 2024, sent ripples through the F1 community, surprising even seasoned insiders like Jordan.

Nearly a year later, Jordan still struggles to comprehend Ferrari’s decision.

Speaking on his podcast Formula for Success with co-host David Coulthard, Jordan labeled it his “For F**k’s sake” moment of the year.

“I told John Elkann, Ferrari’s chairman, that letting Sainz go was a baffling decision,” Jordan said.

“Sainz and Leclerc worked well together, and the team had a solid structure. Under Fred Vasseur’s leadership, they were poised for success.”

Jordan acknowledged Hamilton’s character, describing him as one of the grid’s nicest drivers, but argued that Ferrari’s choice to replace Sainz with Hamilton was a risky gamble.

“It’s practically suicidal of Elkann to send Sainz away,” Jordan added.

Following his Ferrari exit, Sainz has joined Williams as Alexander Albon’s teammate.

The Spaniard has already completed testing for his new team after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
