Horner issues ‘divisive’ Hamilton and Leclerc warning to Ferrari…read more

Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing, has raised concerns over the potential challenges Ferrari could face in the 2025 Formula 1 season with their new driver pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc. Horner suggests that the lack of a clear driver hierarchy within Ferrari could lead to internal tensions, particularly as both drivers will be competing for supremacy.

For the upcoming season, both Ferrari and Red Bull will have fresh line-ups. Hamilton, who has dominated the sport with Mercedes, will be joining Ferrari to team up with Leclerc, who has long been seen as the Scuderia’s future star. Meanwhile, Red Bull will promote Liam Lawson to replace Sergio Perez as Max Verstappen’s teammate. Horner, speaking to talkSPORT, expressed that Red Bull’s driver dynamic is more straightforward, with Verstappen firmly established as their lead driver, and Lawson expected to provide valuable support.

Horner pointed out that Red Bull’s philosophy differs from Ferrari’s. The Austrian team has no doubt that Verstappen is their most valuable asset and the primary contender for the championship. Their strategy is clear: Verstappen’s dominance is the main focus, and any challenge from his teammate is seen as a bonus, but not a source of internal conflict. Red Bull’s approach centers on Verstappen’s consistent pursuit of the title, with the team’s support firmly behind him.

In contrast, Ferrari will have two highly competitive drivers in Hamilton and Leclerc, both of whom will be striving for the title. Hamilton, with his eyes set on a record eighth World Championship, is not one to back down, and his presence at Ferrari will surely fuel competition within the team. Leclerc, on the other hand, will be eager to prove that he is the driver capable of leading Ferrari back to glory after years of frustration.

Horner warns that Ferrari’s lack of a clear hierarchy could create friction. With both Hamilton and Leclerc chasing individual goals, they may end up taking points away from each other, and the team will face a difficult decision in terms of which driver to prioritize. This internal rivalry could potentially become divisive, complicating Ferrari’s ability to work cohesively and achieve team objectives.

Ultimately, Horner believes that different teams have different approaches, and Ferrari’s decision to have two top-tier drivers without a clear number-one could have significant implications for their season in 2025.
