Red Bull boss speaks out on Verstappen exit
Christian Horner has addressed speculation about Max Verstappen’s future with Red Bull amidst ongoing rumors linking the four-time Formula 1 champion with other teams.
Despite securing his fourth consecutive title in 2024, Verstappen faced a challenging season as Red Bull struggled to maintain its dominance.
Key personnel departures and a less competitive RB20 allowed rivals McLaren and Ferrari to close the gap significantly.
In particular, McLaren’s Lando Norris mounted a strong title challenge, though he ultimately fell short.
The competition marked a stark contrast to Red Bull’s dominance in 2023.
Adding to the intrigue, Lewis Hamilton’s retirement from Mercedes created a vacancy that fueled speculation about Verstappen potentially switching teams.
While Mercedes eventually signed promising talent Kimi Antonelli for the 2025 season, rumors about Verstappen’s future persisted.
Aston Martin has also emerged as a potential suitor.
Following the high-profile recruitment of technical mastermind Adrian Newey from Red Bull, reports have suggested the Silverstone-based team may consider an ambitious move to secure Verstappen.
However, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner remains confident that Verstappen is committed to staying.
Speaking to Autosport, Horner emphasized the Dutchman’s loyalty, highlighting the strong relationships he has within the team and his satisfaction with the environment Red Bull provides.
Horner acknowledged Verstappen’s extraordinary talent, making him a target for rival teams, but asserted that Red Bull’s focus on maintaining a competitive car is key to keeping their star driver.
“Max has been clear about his commitment to the team,” Horner stated. “He values the people he works with and enjoys being part of Red Bull.
As long as we deliver a car that allows him to compete at the highest level, I don’t see any reason for him to look elsewhere.”
Despite speculation, Verstappen remains under contract with Red Bull until the end of the 2028 season, giving the team ample time to address any performance concerns.
Horner’s comments reflect confidence in retaining the reigning champion as long as the team continues to meet his competitive aspirations.
