Breaking news:Lewis Hamilton branded ‘biggest disappointment’ in ‘controversial…read more

Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, has been described as the “biggest disappointment” of the 2024 season by former F1 driver David Coulthard. The comments, deemed controversial, reflect on Hamilton’s challenging final season with Mercedes before his much-anticipated move to Ferrari.

Hamilton’s 12th and final year with the Silver Arrows proved difficult, highlighted by struggles such as his poor performance at the Qatar Grand Prix. After the race, he candidly admitted, “I’m definitely not fast anymore,” signaling frustration with his form. The season saw Hamilton decisively outclassed by teammate George Russell in qualifying, with a head-to-head score of 19-5. As the season progressed, Hamilton expressed his weariness, even hinting at retirement after the Brazilian Grand Prix.

In an interview with Viaplay, Coulthard didn’t hold back when naming Hamilton as his biggest disappointment of the year. “It’s controversial, I know, given Lewis is a seven-time World Champion and a phenomenal talent,” Coulthard remarked. “But this season, we saw a version of Lewis we’ve never seen before in Formula 1. He was consistently beaten in qualifying, and the greats usually find a way to deliver under pressure.”

Hamilton’s struggles in 2024 starkly contrast with his storied career. With 105 race wins, 104 pole positions, and 202 podiums, his record places him among the sport’s all-time greats. However, this season’s difficulties have raised concerns about his ability to maintain his competitive edge.

Coulthard also highlighted the potential upsides of Hamilton’s move to Ferrari for 2025, predicting the switch will significantly boost the Scuderia’s global profile and commercial appeal. Hamilton’s star power, he suggested, could bring substantial financial benefits to the team, even if his performance on the track remains uncertain.

Despite a disappointing 2024, Hamilton’s legacy remains intact. His achievements have cemented him as one of F1’s greatest drivers. Nevertheless, his final year at Mercedes has prompted questions about whether he can reclaim his dominance in new surroundings. Fans and critics alike are eagerly awaiting the next chapter in his career, as Hamilton dons Ferrari red and seeks to reignite his championship-winning form
