Aston Martin Denies Claims of Using Max Verstappen to Attract Sponsors
Aston Martin has strongly denied allegations that it is using Max Verstappen’s name to entice sponsors, dismissing the claims as baseless.
A report published by the Daily Mail alleged that Jefferson Slack, Aston Martin’s managing director of commercial and marketing, had been trying to attract investors by suggesting that the reigning four-time Formula 1 World Champion Max Verstappen is on the verge of joining the team. According to the report, Slack has allegedly told potential sponsors that Verstappen would make the switch in a deal valued at £1 billion. The report further speculated that Verstappen’s potential deal might include equity in the Silverstone-based squad, making it one of the most significant agreements in F1 history.
However, Aston Martin has categorically refuted these claims. Speaking to PlanetF1.com, a spokesperson for Aston Martin Aramco firmly denied the allegations, labeling the story as entirely untrue. The team emphasized that there have been no such discussions regarding Verstappen joining their ranks.
Currently, Aston Martin fields Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll as its driver lineup, both of whom are confirmed to stay with the team for the 2025 season. Alonso, a two-time World Champion, and Stroll, son of team owner Lawrence Stroll, are both under contract through the next two years.
On the other hand, Max Verstappen is contracted to Red Bull Racing until the end of the 2028 season. The Dutch driver has repeatedly stated his loyalty to Red Bull, where he has achieved significant success, including his dominant championship runs.
The Daily Mail report has sparked speculation, given Aston Martin’s ambitions to challenge the top teams in Formula 1. Under Lawrence Stroll’s leadership, the team has made substantial investments in its infrastructure and has steadily improved its performance. However, the claims about Verstappen’s potential move to Aston Martin have been dismissed as sensationalism.
This clarification from Aston Martin aims to put an end to the rumors and reaffirm the team’s commitment to its current drivers and long-term strategy. While the team continues to grow as a competitive force in Formula 1, it remains focused on its present plans without any basis for the speculation surrounding Verstappen’s involvement.
