Aston Martin Bolsters Team with Gary Gannon Ahead of 2025 F1 Season

Aston Martin continues its aggressive push to strengthen its Formula 1 team, announcing Gary Gannon as their new senior race engineer for the 2025 season. The move is part of the team’s broader strategy to enhance its technical capabilities and competitiveness on the grid.

Gannon brings a wealth of experience, having started his F1 career with the Marussia team in 2011, where he spent three years before joining Haas. At Haas, he worked with drivers like Romain Grosjean, Mick Schumacher, and Nico Hulkenberg, gaining valuable expertise in race engineering. Before entering F1, Gannon spent a decade with Honda as a performance development engineer, contributing to projects in CART and the American Le Mans Series. It remains unclear whether Gannon will work with Fernando Alonso or Lance Stroll in his new role.

This announcement is one of several high-profile appointments by the Silverstone-based team as they prepare for the upcoming season. Aston Martin recently confirmed that legendary F1 engineer Adrian Newey will join as managing technical partner and shareholder. Newey, whose career includes over 200 race wins and 26 Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships, will officially begin his role before the Australian Grand Prix in March 2025.

In addition, Aston Martin has recruited Enrico Cardile, Ferrari’s former technical director, as Chief Technical Officer to further solidify their technical department. These appointments underscore the team’s determination to become a top contender in the championship.

The team is also undergoing significant leadership restructuring. Andy Cowell, renowned for developing Mercedes’ dominant V6-hybrid engines, will take over as team principal. Cowell previously served as the Group CEO of Aston Martin and has played a pivotal role in the company’s success. Meanwhile, former team principal Mike Krack will transition to a newly created role as Chief Trackside Officer, allowing him to continue contributing to the team’s trackside operations.

Reflecting on Aston Martin’s progress, Cowell acknowledged their relentless efforts in the 2024 season:
“We undoubtedly led the championship for the most updates last year, but those updates didn’t translate into lap time. What everyone in this business ultimately wants is to deliver lap time.”

Aston Martin’s comprehensive overhaul of its technical and leadership structure signals its ambition to challenge for top honors in 2025. With these strategic moves, the team is laying the groundwork for a more competitive future in Formula 1.
