Since the beginning of the offseason, Matt Chapman and the San Francisco Giants have been connected. That’s not changed, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

As spring training draws near, Heyman revealed that the Giants are continuing in communication with Chapman. Given that Blake Snell, Cody Bellinger, and Jorge Soler have all lately been connected to San Francisco, he is one of the top free agents that the Giants are reportedly interested in signing.

Chapman’s performance in 2023 was uneventful. In his 581 plate appearances, he batted.240/.330/.424 with 17 home runs and 39 doubles.

Chapman was excellent defensively, even though his output as a third baseman may have been underwhelming. In 2023, he helped the Blue Jays save 12 runs.

Ever since the offseason started, the Giants have been seen as one of Chapman’s top options. Bob Melvin, the manager, knows Chapman from their time together in Oakland.

For years, the Giants have attempted, but failed, to draw elite players to San Francisco. Although Jung Hoo Lee improves the roster, there is still a lack of power. Chapman was going to be involved in the solution.

Three base hitters have other suitors. Throughout the offseason, Chapman has been connected to both the Yankees and the Cubs. Even if Justin Turner signed with Toronto, a reunion with the Blue Jays still makes sense.

There will be competition for his services in San Francisco. Still, Chapman is a terrific fit for the Giants. It
