Max Verstappen Acquires a $15 Million Super-yacht
Max Verstappen, the Dutch Formula 1 superstar, has added a $15 million Mangusta super-yacht to his growing collection of luxury assets. Aptly named ‘Unleash the Lion’, the 33-meter yacht showcases his success and love for indulgence, offering a floating haven for relaxation and adventure.
A Luxurious Floating Masterpiece
The four-time World Champion and his partner, Kelly Piquet, recently visited the Overmarine shipyard in Italy to inspect the yacht. Commissioned two years ago, the Mangusta GranSport 33 is a marvel of engineering and elegance.
The yacht boasts five staterooms that can host up to 12 guests, complemented by three cabins for crew members. Other features include a spacious sundeck, a beach club at the stern for easy water access, and multiple lounging areas for maximum comfort. Its sleek design and high-end amenities make it a fitting addition to Verstappen’s luxurious lifestyle.
A Growing List of Luxury Assets
Verstappen’s new superyacht is just one of many extravagant purchases by the racing icon. He also owns a Dassault Falcon 900EX private jet, reflecting his penchant for opulence. However, the timing of the purchase has sparked speculation about his future in Formula 1.
Does This Signal Retirement?
The connection between luxury yachts and retirement has been a topic of discussion in F1 circles. Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan recently noted on the Formula For Success podcast that many drivers, including himself and David Coulthard, bought yachts shortly before retiring.
“When people buy boats, it’s often an indication that they’re preparing to step away,” Jordan commented. This speculation arose earlier in 2024 when Fernando Alonso purchased a 60 Sunreef Power Eco yacht. However, Alonso defied expectations by signing a two-year contract extension with Aston Martin until the end of 2026.
Verstappen’s Plans Beyond F1
Although Verstappen has a contract with Red Bull Racing until 2028, he has openly expressed uncertainty about staying in the sport for the full duration. Speaking to Road & Track, he emphasized that his decision to continue would depend on various factors, including the new F1 car regulations in 2026 and the demands of the race calendar.
“At the end of my contract, I’ll be 31. That’s still very young, but I started at 17,” Verstappen explained. “For me, it depends on how the new cars drive from 2026 onwards and how much time I spend away from home. It’s a demanding sport, regardless of success.”
The Dutch driver has repeatedly stated that he has no desire to chase records, such as winning eight or nine championships. Instead, he prioritizes enjoying the sport and balancing his professional and personal life.
An Open-Minded Approach to the Future
Verstappen’s focus remains on savoring the moment rather than committing to long-term goals. “I’m not stressed about my future,” he said. “I want to enjoy what I’m doing and, of course, I want to win. But it’s about the entire package, not just the driving experience.”
With his new superyacht as a symbol of his success, Verstappen continues to live life on his own terms—both on and off the track. While speculation about his retirement persists, the Dutchman remains focused on his immediate goals and the enjoyment of his unparalleled lifestyle.
