Just in:Ferrari Confirms Late Driver Move for 2025 Season
Ferrari has made a late driver announcement for the 2025 season, though not all of their plans are fully set. While much of the attention has been on their high-profile signing of Lewis Hamilton for Formula 1, the Italian manufacturer is also focusing on other racing categories, including the F1 Academy.
The team recently confirmed that Maya Weug will once again represent Ferrari in the F1 Academy series in 2025. After an impressive 2024 season, where she secured third place while racing for Prema under the Ferrari Driver Academy banner, Weug is set to return for another year—this time with MP Motorsport.
Ferrari’s Continued Investment in Young Talent
Ferrari’s involvement in the F1 Academy underlines its commitment to developing young drivers, especially female racers, as the series continues to grow. Weug, who has been part of Ferrari’s development program for years, remains a key figure in their junior driver plans.
MP Motorsport has established itself as a strong competitor in F1 Academy, consistently achieving front-running performances in the first two seasons of the championship. Weug’s move to the Dutch outfit marks an exciting new chapter in her career.
Maya Weug’s Excitement for 2025
Expressing her enthusiasm for the season ahead, Weug shared her thoughts on joining MP Motorsport:
“I can’t wait to get started with MP Motorsport for my second season in F1 Academy. We’ll be working hard all year and fighting for more wins. Super proud to be racing in Ferrari colours again for 2025!” she said.
She also highlighted the significance of joining a Dutch team for the first time in her career. “It’s actually the first time in my motorsport career that I will represent a Dutch team, so that alone is quite special. MP have done well in the first two F1 Academy seasons, always running up front and taking their share of wins, and it’s definitely my goal to add to those wins and challenge for the title.”
The 2025 F1 Academy season will be held across 14 races, all supporting Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends. Weug is eager to showcase her skills on this grand stage, with aspirations of contending for the title.
Ferrari’s High-Profile Moves in 2025
While Ferrari’s junior program remains a crucial part of their development strategy, the team’s biggest story of 2025 remains Lewis Hamilton’s arrival. The seven-time world champion made the bold decision to leave Mercedes in pursuit of an eighth F1 title with Ferrari. His move has created a major buzz in the paddock, and fans are eagerly anticipating how he will perform in Ferrari red.
The team has also capitalized on Hamilton’s arrival commercially, currently offering discounts of up to 30% on official Ferrari F1 merchandise ahead of the season opener.
Who Else is Racing in F1 Academy?
The 2025 F1 Academy grid is shaping up to be a highly competitive one. Defending champion Abbi Pulling will not be returning, leaving the door open for new title contenders. Among the confirmed drivers are rising stars such as Doriane Pin, Lia Block, Ella Lloyd, and Alisha Palmowski, all of whom will be looking to make their mark on the series.
With a promising season ahead, Ferrari’s continued investment in young talent through the F1 Academy signals their broader ambition to strengthen their motorsport legacy beyond Formula 1.
