Ferrari Implements Change for Leclerc Following Hamilton’s Crash
Ferrari has announced a revision to Charles Leclerc’s testing programme after a significant incident involving new team-mate Lewis Hamilton disrupted the scheduled run. The change comes in the wake of Hamilton’s crash during a private test session in Barcelona, which not only caused extensive damage to the car’s suspension and bodywork but also forced the team to cancel Leclerc’s planned session that day.
Incident Disrupts Testing Schedule
During the three-day testing programme at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Ferrari had arranged for both drivers to share the track in the team’s 2023 car. Leclerc initially opened the morning session, with Hamilton scheduled to take over later in the day. However, on the second day of testing, Hamilton lost control at a critical section of the circuit and crashed heavily, leading to significant repairs on the car. As a result, Leclerc was unable to complete his final scheduled run for the day.
In order to make up for the lost track time, Ferrari has confirmed that Leclerc will be given an additional Testing of Previous Car (TPC) session during the upcoming Pirelli tyre test. The revised schedule will see the Monegasque driver returning to the track in the SF-23 model on February 4 and 5, ensuring that he gets the necessary seat time to fine-tune his performance ahead of the F1 2025 season
A Ferrari spokesperson explained, “We are committed to maximizing our preparation time. Although the incident was unfortunate, we have adjusted Leclerc’s programme to ensure he has ample opportunity to get up to speed with our car and systems.”
Looking Ahead
The move highlights Ferrari’s proactive approach to overcoming testing setbacks as they prepare for the upcoming season. With Lewis Hamilton’s debut marking a new era for the Scuderia and Charles Leclerc’s performance under close scrutiny, both drivers now face the challenge of integrating their skills into a rapidly evolving team environment.
As Ferrari continues its pre-season work, the additional testing session for Leclerc is seen as critical in helping the team maintain its competitive edge. The extra track time will not only aid in driver development but also assist the engineers in gathering essential data to refine the car’s setup for the challenges ahead.
With the F1 2025 season fast approaching, all eyes will be on Ferrari as they balance internal dynamics and technical improvements, ensuring both Hamilton and Leclerc are fully prepared to compete at the highest level.
