Scott Elkins to Retire as Formula E Race Director,…read more

Scott Elkins, the long-serving Race Director of Formula E, has announced his retirement from the all-electric racing series. While his official departure will take place after the Miami E-Prix in April, he will begin transitioning out of his role during the upcoming Jeddah E-Prix. Deputy Race Director Marek Hanaczewski will step in for the event, preparing to take over full-time leadership later in the year.

Elkins, who has been an integral part of Formula E for the past decade, cited personal reasons for his accelerated retirement. In a statement, he revealed that the recent passing of his father in December had shifted his priorities, requiring him to dedicate more time and attention to his family.

“After 10 years in Formula E, the time has come for me to retire as Race Director,” Elkins said. “With the recent loss of my father this past December, I have new responsibilities that require my time and attention at home. While I had hoped to complete Season 11 and retire at its conclusion, my plans have now been accelerated, and my focus remains on my family.”

Although his decision to step down earlier than planned is bittersweet, Elkins expressed confidence in the Formula E team that will continue without him. He emphasized the dedication and professionalism of his colleagues, ensuring that the championship will remain in capable hands.

“Although I am very sad to leave, I am confident in the staff that will remain,” he continued. “We have worked closely together, and I know they are committed to making the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship a success, this season and in the many to come.”

Elkins has played a vital role in shaping the structure and integrity of Formula E racing since its inception. As Race Director, he has overseen numerous races and helped refine regulations, ensuring fair competition and safety on the track. His departure marks the end of an era, but the championship remains in experienced hands.

Marek Hanaczewski, who will step into the role, has been working closely with Elkins as deputy race director and is well-versed in the demands of the position. His transition into the lead role is expected to be smooth, given his familiarity with Formula E operations and race procedures.

Formula E has evolved significantly over the past decade, growing into a globally recognized motorsport series that attracts top manufacturers and drivers. The championship continues to push the boundaries of electric racing technology while delivering thrilling, competitive action on city circuits around the world.

With Elkins’ departure, the organization faces a new chapter, but the foundations he helped establish will continue to guide the series. His contributions to the sport have been immense, and his influence will be felt for years to come.

As the season progresses, fans and teams will have the chance to witness the transition in leadership. While Elkins may no longer be at the helm, his impact on Formula E’s growth and success will remain a lasting legacy.
