Ferrari F1 Team Fires Up SF-25 for the First Time – Watch Here
Ferrari has unveiled its new SF-25 Formula 1 car in a thrilling video reveal from Maranello, Italy. This marks the start of their 2025 campaign, where the SF-25 will compete for the championship. Initially, Ferrari planned to reveal the car on February 19th, with a dedicated event. However, the launch date has shifted to February 18th to align with a major event in London, where all ten Formula 1 teams will present their new car liveries. Despite the change in the timeline, Ferrari will still hold a test drive on February 19th at the Fiorano circuit. This test will feature Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc putting the SF-25 through its paces on track.
In the days following the London event, Ferrari will share digital renderings of the SF-25 across their social media platforms. The car’s development has undergone a significant transformation to improve its performance and challenge dominant teams like Red Bull and McLaren. The SF-25 features a new aerodynamic design inspired by Red Bull’s approach, as well as several other key changes. The car now incorporates a front suspension with a pullrod layout, aimed at optimizing airflow and reducing drag, which should help enhance its downforce generation.
In terms of the car’s overall redesign, very few components from the SF-24 have been carried over to the SF-25. This highlights the depth of the overhaul, which includes an entirely new chassis and engine. Additionally, the brake system has been specially adapted to suit Lewis Hamilton’s driving style. However, Ferrari is still working on improving tire warm-up performance, a challenge compounded by new Pirelli tire regulations for the 2025 season. Early test results from Barcelona revealed this as an area that still needs refinement.
Ferrari has made use of its newly upgraded wind tunnel in Maranello to fine-tune the SF-25’s aerodynamic performance. The wind tunnel’s improvements, completed last year, have allowed for more accurate simulations and testing, helping Ferrari optimize the car’s design.
Recently, Ferrari participated in a Pirelli tire test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on February 4th and 5th, where Hamilton and Leclerc took turns behind the wheel. This test was focused on evaluating the new 2026 tire compounds ahead of the upcoming regulation changes. This session followed a private three-day test with the SF-23, Ferrari’s 2023 car, which included an incident where Hamilton crashed into the barriers. Thankfully, he was uninjured.
As reported by ESPN, during the Pirelli test, Hamilton and Leclerc tested Ferrari’s 2024 car, the SF-24, which had helped the team secure second place in the Constructors’ Championship in 2024, narrowly missing out on first place to McLaren. For Hamilton, this test will be his last in an older F1 car before the SF-25’s official unveiling at the O2 Arena in London on February 18th. Following this event, Ferrari’s exclusive launch at Fiorano on February 19th will precede the preseason testing in Bahrain, which will take place from February 26th
to 28th.
