Lewis Hamilton Opens Up on Retirement Plans with Ferrari
Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton has shed some light on his retirement plans, just weeks after confirming his move to Ferrari for the 2025 season. The seven-time world champion has signed a multi-year deal with the legendary Italian team, aiming to secure a historic eighth world title before eventually stepping away from the sport.
At 40 years old, Hamilton is in the latter part of his illustrious career. However, the British driver has a wide range of interests outside racing, from fashion and music to movie production, ensuring he has plenty of avenues to explore once he decides to retire. Despite his focus on his upcoming challenge with Ferrari, Hamilton has already given some thought to how he envisions life after Formula 1—and it includes an iconic car from his new team.
Hamilton’s Dream Retirement Plan
While Hamilton has not yet announced a specific retirement date, he recently shared a vision for his future in an interview with Time Magazine. Reflecting on his early memories of Ferrari, he recalled the classic movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which famously featured a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder. The film left a lasting impression on him, and to this day, the vintage Ferrari remains his all-time favorite car.
Hamilton revealed that he dreams of driving the Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder during his retirement—with his beloved dog, Roscoe, by his side. Describing the perfect post-racing scenario, Hamilton painted a picture of himself cruising along the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), with Roscoe in the passenger seat, wearing a scarf and goggles.
“That’s the ultimate retirement car,” Hamilton stated. “I can just see myself with Roscoe, him with a scarf and goggles in the seat next to me, driving down the PCH.”
What’s Next for Hamilton?
Before he can make this dream a reality, Hamilton has his sights set on making history with Ferrari. His move from Mercedes, where he has spent over a decade and won six of his seven championships, marks one of the most significant transfers in Formula 1 history. He will be joining Charles Leclerc at the Italian outfit, hoping to bring them their first drivers’ championship since 2007.
Although retirement remains a topic of speculation, Hamilton’s passion for racing shows no signs of fading just yet. He continues to train at the highest level, maintaining his competitive edge as he gears up for his final season with Mercedes in 2024 before making the highly anticipated switch to Ferrari.
While fans eagerly await his performance in the Scuderia’s iconic red car, Hamilton’s post-F1 vision offers a glimpse into his future beyond the paddock. Whether it’s fashion, music, or simply enjoying a scenic drive with Roscoe, it’s clear that Hamilton’s next chapter will be just as stylish and exciting as his racing career.
