Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has addressed the future of his famous “Hammer Time” messages following his move to Ferrari. The phrase, used by his long-time Mercedes race engineer Peter Bonnington to signal when to push flat-out, became one of the most iconic radio calls in F1.
Now racing in Ferrari red, Hamilton has confirmed that “Hammer Time” will not continue at his new team. “That was something special between Bono and me at Mercedes,” Hamilton stated. “Every team has its own way of communicating, and Ferrari has its own culture and approach.”
With Bonnington remaining at Mercedes, Hamilton is working with a new race engineer at Ferrari, meaning the dynamic has changed. While fans may miss the legendary phrase, Hamilton is optimistic about creating new traditions. “I have so much respect for the Ferrari team, and we’re building something great here,” he said. “Maybe a new phrase will emerge over time.”
Despite leaving “Hammer Time” behind, Hamilton remains focused on his new challenge with Ferrari. Fans eagerly anticipate whether the British driver will develop a fresh signature radio call as he embarks on this new chapter of his career.
