Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko has spoken out regarding Max Verstappen’s potential absence from upcoming Formula 1 races due to the imminent arrival of his first child. Verstappen and his partner, Kelly Piquet, are expecting a baby, prompting questions about whether the reigning world champion might miss any races this season to be present for the birth.
Marko, a key figure in Red Bull’s driver management, named two specific Grands Prix Monaco and Canada as potential events that could be affected. However, he moved quickly to reassure fans and the team alike, stating that Verstappen has expressed a strong commitment to remaining with the team throughout the season. “Max is fully focused on the championship, but of course family comes first,” Marko said. “If needed, we have contingency plans.”
While the exact due date remains private, speculation grew as Verstappen was notably absent from recent Red Bull promotional events. Marko clarified that his absence was unrelated to any internal team issues and solely due to personal matters.
Red Bull is reportedly preparing reserve driver Liam Lawson to step in if necessary. Lawson impressed during his substitute appearances last season and would be a logical temporary replacement.
As Red Bull continues to battle with Ferrari and Mercedes in a tight championship fight, Verstappen’s availability remains crucial. For now, all signs suggest he will remain in the cockpit unless the baby’s arrival coincides directly with a race weekend.
