FIA Selects Lando Norris’ McLaren for Pre-Race Inspection in Saudi Arabia
Lando Norris’ McLaren has been chosen for a routine inspection by the FIA ahead of this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The car will be part of a standard pre-race display at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on Friday, allowing fans and media to get a closer look before the action kicks off.
The FIA regularly selects a few cars each race weekend for this display, which takes place outside the team garages. Joining Norris’ MCL39 will be Gabriel Bortoleto’s Sauber and Liam Lawson’s RB, as part of the rotating selection process.
This news comes as Norris aims to regain momentum after a mixed performance in Bahrain. Despite finishing on the podium, it was teammate Oscar Piastri who took the win from pole, while Norris had to settle for sixth on the grid and third at the flag.
Known for being openly critical of his own performances, Norris expressed frustration last weekend, saying, “I feel like I’ve never driven a Formula 1 car before.” Meanwhile, Piastri remains composed and is now just three points behind Norris in the drivers’ standings.
Heading into the final race of the season’s first triple-header, Norris still leads the championship but has consistently voiced his discomfort with the MCL39. Nevertheless, McLaren have clearly taken a step forward in 2025, especially compared to Red Bull.
Red Bull, who dominated in Jeddah last year with a 1-2 finish from Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, have seen their form dip. With McLaren looking strong, another one-two result is a real possibility if Norris can find his rhythm with the car this weekend.
