Red Bull Boss Horner Stunned by ‘Impossible’ Verstappen
Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner has expressed awe at Max Verstappen’s recent performances, describing them as “almost un-human” and labeling the Dutch driver as “on another planet” following his dominant display at the Chinese Grand Prix.
Verstappen’s victory in Shanghai marked his first at the circuit and his 26th different track win, underscoring his versatility and dominance in the sport. Horner praised Verstappen’s exceptional connection with his car, stating, “He has unbelievable feel and empathy with the car, the feel, the conditions. He has confidence in himself. He has ability to understand the tyres, what they need, when they need to be pushed and saved. He has an incredible racing brain. It’s almost un-human what he’s capable of.”
This sentiment echoes Horner’s earlier remarks after Verstappen clinched his third consecutive drivers’ title, where he highlighted the driver’s “phenomenal” abilities and self-belief. “The way he has driven this year has just been out of this world,” Horner commented, adding that Verstappen is “up there with the very, very best, some of the greatest this sport has seen.”
Despite Red Bull’s internal challenges, including leadership tensions and the departure of key personnel, Verstappen’s performances have remained stellar. Horner acknowledged the difficulty of maintaining such dominance, stating, “It’s a golden moment – for the team to do better than we’re doing I think it’s almost impossible.”
As the season progresses, Horner remains optimistic about Verstappen’s continued growth, emphasizing his unique blend of skill, determination, and racing intelligence. “He’s only 26. I think he’s still going to get better, still going to evolve and grow as a driver,” Horner noted.
With Verstappen’s current form, Red Bull aims to capitalize on this momentum, striving for continued success in the championship standings.
