Max Verstappen Pulls Off Playful Phone Heist from Albon Ahead of Saudi Grand Prix

Formula 1 fans were treated to a humorous moment during media day at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, as Williams driver Alex Albon took to social media to expose a playful “robbery” involving three of his fellow drivers — including three-time world champion Max Verstappen.

In a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter), Albon shared a series of selfies that had mysteriously appeared on his phone. The culprit? None other than Verstappen, who had jokingly snatched Albon’s phone and snapped pictures alongside veteran champion Fernando Alonso and rookie driver Isack Hadjar.

Albon played along with the prank, captioning his post: “911 I’d like to report a robbery,” alongside the amusing photos. The light-hearted exchange added a fun twist to the otherwise intense atmosphere of race week, offering fans a glimpse of the camaraderie behind the scenes of the highly competitive sport.

While the photos were all in good fun, they also featured an intriguing mix of drivers — Verstappen, Alonso, and Hadjar — symbolizing the blend of experience and emerging talent currently shaping the F1 grid.

Albon’s relaxed attitude off-track mirrors the confidence he’s shown on-track this season. The Thai-British driver has enjoyed an impressive start, scoring 18 points across the opening four rounds, which places him eighth in the Drivers’ Championship standings. His strong performance, coupled with his new teammate Carlos Sainz’s contribution, has helped Williams climb to sixth in the Constructors’ Championship — just one point shy of Haas in fifth.

The revived energy within the Williams garage reflects the team’s steady rise in form, and Albon’s chemistry with Sainz seems to be playing a vital role in that resurgence. Their efforts are turning heads in the paddock and giving Williams fans reasons to believe in a potential return to the front of the grid.

Meanwhile, Verstappen himself has had to tackle more serious matters during the Saudi GP media rounds. Amid swirling rumors about his long-term future with Red Bull Racing, the Dutch star found the opportunity to engage in some harmless fun likely refreshing. His light-hearted antics with Albon may have offered a brief reprieve from ongoing questions surrounding his commitment to Red Bull beyond the current season.

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko recently raised eyebrows when he acknowledged concerns over Verstappen’s future, especially as the team appears to be losing the dominant edge it once held. Although Verstappen remains under contract, speculation continues to mount — particularly with talks of him potentially joining Aston Martin.

Interestingly, some of those very rumors suggest a potential partnership between Verstappen and Fernando Alonso at Aston Martin in the coming years. However, the team has publicly maintained that both Alonso and Lance Stroll are signed until the end of the 2026 season, casting doubt on any imminent changes.

For now, though, the focus remains on the racing — and moments like Verstappen’s playful phone theft offer a lighthearted reminder that even at the highest level of motorsport, there’s still room for fun and friendship.
