BREAKING: Toto Wolff Provides Update on Max Verstappen-Mercedes S… read more
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has firmly denied speculation linking reigning world champion Max Verstappen with a move to the Silver Arrows, confirming there have been no discussions between the two parties.
Since Lewis Hamilton’s departure in 2024, rumors have swirled about Mercedes possibly targeting Verstappen as a marquee replacement. Wolff had previously expressed regret over missing the opportunity to sign Verstappen to the team’s junior program earlier in his career.
But speaking to Sky Sports F1’s Martin Brundle, Wolff made his stance clear.
“No Talks, No Intentions,” Says Wolff
“No, I wouldn’t say that,” Wolff responded when asked if he might let Verstappen slip away again. “I always say I don’t look elsewhere when I’m happy where I am. Professionally, I’m very satisfied with the driver lineup we have. I couldn’t ask for anything more. Max is with Red Bull, and we haven’t even spoken.”
Wolff’s remarks come amid rising speculation about Verstappen’s future at Red Bull following his visible frustration during recent race weekends, particularly after Red Bull’s struggles in Bahrain and the time penalty he received in Saudi Arabia, which cost him a potential win.
Verstappen’s Future in the Spotlight
After the race in Jeddah, Verstappen expressed his discontent, stating, “The only thing that interests me is going home.” Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko intensified the rumors by admitting that losing Verstappen is a serious concern for the team.
These developments prompted questions to rival teams, including Mercedes and Aston Martin, about possible talks with Verstappen. Aston Martin’s Andy Cowell denied any interest, and Wolff’s latest comments further confirm that no approach has been made.
Looking Ahead: Mercedes’ 2026 Lineup
While both George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli are out of contract after the 2025 season, Mercedes is reportedly close to extending Russell’s stay with a new two-year deal.
For now, Wolff appears committed to continuity, dismissing any idea of making a dramatic move for Verstappen — despite ongoing whispers about the Dutchman’s long-term future at Red Bull.
