Carlos Sainz Faces Potential FIA Sanction After Frustrated Outburst During Saudi GP Interview

Carlos Sainz could be hit with a fine or reprimand from the FIA after an expletive-laden outburst during a post-race interview at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The Spanish driver, who scored his first points of the 2025 season by finishing eighth for Williams, became visibly frustrated during a media appearance due to loud fireworks erupting in the background.

As Sainz attempted to answer a routine question about his performance in Jeddah, the noise from the celebratory pyrotechnics interrupted his train of thought. Struggling to hear and focus, he briefly lost his composure and uttered a swear word, which was picked up by live television microphones.

He had started to respond with, “Well, it’s normal that [the opening races] are tricky…” before being thrown off by the noise. Although seemingly minor, the outburst could fall foul of the FIA’s strict media conduct regulations, which require drivers to maintain professionalism during interviews and public appearances.

This slip could lead to disciplinary action, including a possible monetary fine, similar to penalties handed down to other drivers — including Max Verstappen — for controversial language or conduct in the media pen. The FIA has made it clear that drivers are expected to represent the sport in a respectful and composed manner, regardless of the circumstances.

While Sainz’s frustration may be understandable given the chaotic setting, the incident adds to the growing scrutiny over how Formula 1 drivers manage their emotions under pressure especially when faced with the often hectic and noisy post-race environments.

No official statement has yet been issued by the FIA regarding any action, but with increasing attention on maintaining professionalism in F1’s public image, Sainz may not escape the matter without consequence.
