Lewis Hamilton May Quit Ferrari in 2025, Warns F1 Pundit

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is facing increasing speculation about his future with Ferrari, with pundits suggesting he could exit the team before the end of the 2025 season. The British racing icon, who joined the Scuderia this year following a long and successful stint at Mercedes, has struggled to find his footing with the Italian outfit. His performances have been underwhelming so far, raising questions about his ability to adapt to the team’s dynamics and the SF-25 car.

Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari was one of the biggest stories heading into the 2025 season. After spending over a decade with Mercedes and achieving historic success, including six of his seven world titles, expectations were high that he could bring similar glory to Maranello. However, the reality has been starkly different. Throughout the opening races of the season, Hamilton has cut a frustrated figure, frequently acknowledging the difficulties he’s encountered adjusting to the new machinery.

Despite being known for his resilience and ability to adapt—especially demonstrated when he moved from McLaren to Mercedes in 2013—this latest chapter of Hamilton’s career is proving to be one of his most challenging. Ferrari’s SF-25, while competitive in the hands of teammate Charles Leclerc, has not suited Hamilton’s driving style. His struggle became even more apparent during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Jeddah, where Leclerc managed a podium finish, securing third place, while Hamilton trailed behind in seventh.

Hamilton didn’t mince words following the race. “Clearly the car is capable of being P3,” he said, praising Leclerc’s performance. “Charles did a great job today so… I can’t blame it on that.” The honesty of his remarks hinted at his growing frustration, as he appeared to run out of excuses for his lackluster results.

F1 pundit and former driver Ralf Schumacher addressed Hamilton’s troubles on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast by Sky Sports Germany. He offered a bleak outlook for the British driver, warning that unless there’s a significant turnaround in performance, Hamilton might walk away from Ferrari before the season ends.

“Lewis is used to winning, to competing at the front,” Schumacher explained. “But at Ferrari, he’s not just struggling with the car, he’s struggling with the environment. If results don’t come soon, I wouldn’t be surprised if he decides to call it quits.”

Hamilton did provide a brief glimpse of what he’s capable of when he won the sprint race in China back in March. That performance reignited hopes among fans that he could still challenge at the front of the pack. However, subsequent weekends have failed to build on that momentum. Inconsistency has plagued his campaign, and the gap to Leclerc continues to widen.

Complicating matters further is Leclerc’s growing comfort within the team. Now in his seventh year with Ferrari, the Monegasque driver appears fully integrated and is delivering the kind of performances expected from a team leader. In contrast, Hamilton seems unsettled—something that’s raising concerns among fans and pundits alike.

Adding fuel to the fire, a recent unrelated business issue saw Hamilton in headlines again, as reports surfaced about one of his ventures shutting down, leading to job losses. While not directly connected to his F1 career, the negative publicity has contributed to the narrative of a difficult year for the former champion.

Despite the setbacks, Hamilton has not made any public statements hinting at early retirement or a departure from Ferrari. However, if his current trajectory continues, pressure will mount—both internally and externally. Ferrari, as a team, is known for its demanding culture and high expectations, and patience may wear thin if Hamilton fails to deliver results.

Still, it’s worth remembering that Hamilton has overcome adversity before. His career is full of comebacks and late-season surges. Whether he can replicate that magic in red remains to be seen, but time may be running out for the legend to find his groove at Ferrari.

With the next few races being critical, all eyes will be on Hamilton to see if he can turn things around. If not, the whispers about an early exit could quickly turn into reality, marking a stunning and premature end to what many hoped would be a fairytale final chapter to an already legendary career.
