Not nice’ to see Hamilton struggling – Russell…Read more
George Russell has expressed concern over teammate Lewis Hamilton’s ongoing struggles during the 2025 Formula 1 season, admitting it’s “not nice” to witness the seven-time world champion battling at the back of the grid.
Hamilton, who is in his final season with Mercedes before moving to Ferrari in 2026, has endured a tough start to the campaign. While Russell has occasionally managed top-five finishes, Hamilton has been plagued by poor qualifying performances, lack of grip, and a car setup that doesn’t suit his driving style.
Speaking after the Miami Grand Prix, where he finished P6 while Hamilton ended up outside the points, Russell acknowledged the emotional weight of the situation.
“It’s not nice to see Lewis struggling,” Russell told reporters. “He’s one of the greatest drivers ever, and I’ve learned a lot from him. We’re both giving everything, but the car has been difficult this year — especially on one-lap pace. He’s obviously not comfortable in it.”
Hamilton has openly voiced frustration with the W16’s performance inconsistencies, particularly in slow-speed corners and under braking — areas where he has traditionally excelled. With Mercedes currently behind Red Bull, Ferrari, and even McLaren in the pecking order, internal pressure is mounting.
Russell emphasized that despite the disparity in results, both drivers are working closely with engineers to unlock performance.
“There’s no division in the team. We’re pushing in the same direction and supporting each other,” he added. “Hopefully things turn around soon, especially for Lewis.”
As the European leg of the season approaches, Mercedes will be looking to bring key upgrades. Fans and pundits alike hope Hamilton can end his final year with the Silver Arrows on a higher note.
