Penalties Rock 2025 Miami GP Sprint Line-Up as Final Starting Order Confirmed
The starting grid for the 2025 Miami Grand Prix Sprint Race has been officially finalized, and a wave of penalties has dramatically altered the lineup heading into the high-stakes Saturday battle.
Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli retains his stunning pole position following a record-breaking qualifying lap, but the stewards’ rulings have shuffled the drivers behind him — most notably Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who was hit with a three-place grid drop after an impeding incident during qualifying.
Daniel Ricciardo of RB also suffered a penalty, receiving a five-place grid drop for failing to reduce speed under yellow flags — sending him to the back of the field.
The updated grid is as follows:
Miami Sprint Grid – Official Line-up:
- Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)
- Charles Leclerc (Ferrari)
- George Russell (Mercedes)
- Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)
- Oscar Piastri (McLaren)
- Lando Norris (McLaren)
- Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – penalized for impeding
- Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari)
- Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin)
- Sergio Perez (Red Bull)
- Esteban Ocon (Alpine)
- Pierre Gasly (Alpine)
- Yuki Tsunoda (RB)
- Valtteri Bottas (Kick Sauber)
- Alexander Albon (Williams)
- Zhou Guanyu (Kick Sauber)
- Logan Sargeant (Williams)
- Kevin Magnussen (Haas)

The stewards’ decisions have added an extra layer of drama to an already unpredictable weekend. Verstappen, knocked from a front-row challenge to the midfield, now faces a tougher road to the podium in the Sprint. Meanwhile, Antonelli’s dream start continues as he leads the field into what promises to be a high-octane showdown.
