Lewis Hamilton Left Fuming as Controversial Clash Costs Him Miami Grand Prix Victory

Lewis Hamilton was visibly frustrated after a controversial start to the Miami Grand Prix derailed his chances of returning to the top step of the podium. A first-lap incident between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, which went without steward investigation, proved pivotal in shaping the outcome of the race.

The drama began as Norris tried to pass Verstappen but was forced wide, running off track and losing three places. The McLaren driver immediately accused Verstappen of pushing him off via team radio. Despite the high-profile clash, the FIA stewards opted not to investigate, a decision that drew criticism and left Hamilton disillusioned, as it allowed Oscar Piastri to take control at the front.

While Norris and Verstappen continued their on-track battle, Piastri stretched his advantage, cruising to his first win of the season. Norris eventually reclaimed second place from Verstappen on lap 18, but the damage from the early incident had already been done.

Hamilton’s frustrations only grew as he spent much of the race bottled up behind his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc. He angrily reminded his team of past races where he had made way for strategy, stating, “In China I got out of the way when you were on a different strategy.” When the delayed order finally came, he sarcastically added, “Have a tea break while you’re at it, come on!”*

Later, when told Carlos Sainz was closing in behind, Hamilton fired back again: “Want me to let him past as well?” He eventually crossed the line in eighth – a result that fell short of his potential in a race heavily impacted by miscommunication and missed opportunities.

The race also saw a high rate of retirements, with Jack Doohan, Ollie Bearman, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Liam Lawson all failing to finish due to a mix of punctures, engine failures, and floor damage. Three Virtual Safety Cars were deployed as a result, further disrupting race strategies and flow.
