Former F1 world champion Damon Hill has heaped praise on Lewis Hamilton for his impressive performance at the Miami Grand Prix, calling it “the mark of a champion” after the seven-time title winner fought back strongly following a tough qualifying session.
Hamilton, who started deep in the field after a Q1 exit, delivered a spirited drive on race day. Making smart overtakes and managing his tyres with precision, the British driver clawed his way up the order to finish in the points — a result many thought was unlikely given Ferrari’s recent inconsistency.
Hill, speaking on Sky Sports F1, applauded Hamilton’s determination and skill under pressure.
“That was a champion’s drive,” Hill said. “Lewis didn’t have the best Saturday, but on Sunday he showed why he’s one of the greatest. He kept his cool, made the moves when it mattered, and brought the car home with maximum effort.”
Despite not finishing on the podium, Hamilton’s racecraft and composure earned him respect across the paddock. It also served as a strong reminder of his enduring class, even as he continues to adapt to life at Ferrari.
With many eyes focused on rising stars and title battles, Hill’s words served as a timely reminder that Hamilton remains a force to be reckoned with in Formula 1.
As the season heads to Europe, the Ferrari driver will be looking to build momentum and silence any doubts — with champions like Hill firmly in his corner.
