In a dramatic move, Alpine has officially announced the signing of Sergio Perez for the remainder of the 2025 Formula 1 season, replacing Jack Doohan in the team’s race lineup. The news comes after weeks of speculation and fan pressure, marking one of the most surprising mid-season driver swaps in recent years.
Perez, a seasoned veteran with multiple wins and podiums, was left without a seat after parting ways with Red Bull at the end of 2024. His return to the grid has sparked excitement among fans, many of whom had been calling for Alpine to bring in more experience as the team struggles to keep pace in the midfield battle.
Alpine team principal Bruno Famin praised both drivers in the announcement. “We thank Jack for his commitment and hard work this season, but we believe bringing in Checo \[Perez] gives us the best chance to achieve our goals for the remainder of the year,” Famin said. “His experience and racecraft will be invaluable as we push to improve our position in the constructors’ standings.”
Doohan, who joined Alpine after progressing through their junior program, will remain with the team as a reserve driver and continue his development. In a brief statement, he wished Perez and the team success, adding, “I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had so far and look forward to what comes next.”
Perez is expected to make his Alpine debut at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix. Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see if he can turn the team’s fortunes around.
